Spaghetti and Meatballs

This Italian American dish consists of spaghetti, meatballs and a tomato sauce known as the marinara sauce as the base. The classic meatballs are made with a mix of minced pork and beef. Top the spaghetti with some freshly chopped parsley and some grated cheese and you will have a mouthwatering and irresistible dish.

Mouthwatering Spaghetti and Meatballs


  •  Spaghetti: 250 gm

  • For Meatballs
  •  Minced Pork: 250 gm
     Minced Beef: 250 gm
     Bread slices: 2
     Egg: 1
     Cornflour: 1 tbsp
     Garlic: 6 cloves
     Green chilli: 2
     Salt:1 tsp
     Pepper: 1 tsp
     Oregano: 1 tsp

  • For Marinara sauce
  •  Tomatoes: 5
     Garlic: 5 cloves
     Onion: 1
     Green chilli: 2
     Oregano: 1 tsp
     Fresh Basil: 5 leaves
     Fresh Parsley: to garnish

  • Step 1 To prepare the meatballs in a bowl mix the minced pork & beef.
  • Step 2 Add in the finely chopped garlic, green chilli, egg, salt, pepper, oregano and combine well.
  • Step 3 Roll the meat mixture into small balls. If it does not hold together add in some cornflour and bread crumbs.
  • Step 4 Shallow fry the meatballs until all the sides have turned brown and keep aside.
  • Step 5 For the marinara sauce, in a pan, add 1 tsp oil and saute the chopped onions, garlic and green chilli.
  • Step 6 Once the onions have turned lightly brown add in the finely chopped tomatoes and fresh basil. (Alternatively, you can add tomato puree. Blanch the tomatoes to remove the skin and blend them to get a fine tomato puree.)
  • Step 7 Add in the seasoning: salt, pepper, oregano and let the tomatoes cook on a medium flame for 5 minutes.
  • Step 8 Next, add in 1 cup water and the fried meatballs to the marinara sauce and simmer on low flame for another 15 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  • Step 9 Finally, add in some freshly chopped parsley. The sauce is ready!!
  • Step 10 For the spaghetti, fill a large pot with water, season with some salt and bring it to a boil.
  • Step 11 Add in the spaghetti and boil it for 5 mins on high flame or until the pasta is soft to bite into. (depends on the thickness of the spaghetti)
  • Step 12 You can mix the spaghetti into the marinara-meatball sauce or just serve the spaghetti and top it with the sauce.
  • Step 13 Garnish with some grated cheese and parsley and enjoy!!
